Motivational Mantra of the Month 5 | May 2013

Hello There!

Today's quote is about accepting that what will be will be, and there's no point worrying about something that you can't change.

These kind of quotes are significant for me because I can't let things go... When I felt that an exam didn't go well for me, I'd be plagued for days about it getting wave after wave of 'I feel so bad about that exam, I don't want to exist, it was awful, I've ruined my life forever...'
Except it never did ruin my life, and the majority of the time it really wasn't that bad.

So the quote is basically saying that if you spend all your time worrying about how yesterday went badly, then you waste the time that you could be using to make the most of today.
So if you've been worrying about something - make the decision to let it go, and concentrate on today...

Motivational Mantra of the Month 4 | May 2013

Hello There!

It's that time again - another motivational mantra!
Today's is:

Ok, so this is quite a harsh quote, I get that.. But I think that sometimes being blunt is the best way to chivvy you along to just get on with it. A lot of the quotes I use seem to faff around, sound great and look intelligent. With this one, you get straight to the point:

If you do something stupid, and you feel silly/embarrassed/mortified/I-want-to-die....
Then it's your own fault, and there's a reason that you feel that way. Hopefully you won't do it again. And for those doing exams the best example of how this helps is mock exams - every question that you get wrong in the mock exam (should) make you revise and not make the same mistake again - it's painful for a reason!

Good luck to everyone doing exams at the moment. Hope these quotes help you :)

Please Read This | Mental Health Awareness Week | 13-19th May

Hello There!

Most people don't know this but we're coming to the end of Mental Health Awareness Week.

Mental Health Awareness Week

So I'm trying to raise awareness through my blog. And no, I don't have millions of views but hopefully if I help someone to be more aware of mental illness then I'll feel like I've achieved something.

Until you've experienced it in your life, it's very easy to ignore mental illnesses. And it's incredible because they're literally everywhere. 1 in 4 adults experience a mental illness every year. You'll probably know someone who has a mental illness, whether you know they have one or not. It's one of the most important illnesses to be aware of because it's so common. And because there are so many different forms of mental illness:

Depression, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, OCD, Eating Disorders, Anxiety, Postnatal Depression, just to name a few.

It's so easy to overlook them and reference them casually, or as a joke.
'I'm so depressed today'
'Haha, you have such an OCD'

I hear these phrases, I say these phrases, and I know myself how easy it is to just dismiss them as a joke. A lot of the time it is just a joke - but how would you feel if the person you said it to actually was ill. Was suffering on their own, and you didn't realise.

They can be incredibly hard to spot. Eating disorders for example have physical repercussions - if someone is anorexic eventually you'll see the problem. But what happens with postnatal depression for example? What are the symptoms of that? You can't see that illness because clothes are to baggy or too tight - not that eating disorders aren't just as debilitating as any other mental illness. They all take their toll in one way or another.

It takes a lot for someone to realise that they have a mental illness, let alone their friends and family realise if they don't have very obvious symptoms - most people with a disorder shy away from their friends and family, and don't want to face it themselves, let alone anyone else notice it.

Most people just live with their mental illnesses, for all sorts of reasons. And it is never a good thing to suffer in silence, never healthy. There's the stigma to consider - will people treat me differently? Will it be harder for me to get a job? That's the whole point of the awareness week. Getting people to realise that it is a serious illness, and needs to be treated, even if that is just having someone to talk to. If someone had cancer you'd expect them to get treatment - why is a mental illness any different?

Mental Health Awareness Week

The theme for this year's Mental Health Awareness Week is 'Physical Activity and Wellbeing'. It's encouraging people to get active so that they have good mental health. Even if you're not ill, exercise is one of the best things for your mental health. Just like chocolate, exercise releases endorphins which make you feel happy. So instead of that chocolate bar, go for a walk, take in the countryside or the city life that's around you and keep yourself healthy

The final thing that I want to leave you with is some advice. If you know or suspect that someone has a mental illness, please don't avoid them. It will be the most important time for you to be a rock as a friend or family member. Even if they don't show that they want you to be around, don't take it personally, it's the illness talking. I know that's the hardest part for an outsider, but deep down they're just hurting and they love you really.

If you suspect that you have a mental illness, I suggest visiting your GP, telling your friends, getting away from isolation - make sure that you keep talking to people even if it's through Skype or a mental health forum. (I am not medically trained, this is what I would do).

Thanks for listening.

£5 Free Mobile Credit | Technological Thursday

Hello There!
Today I just wanted to sing the praises of GiffGaff the mobile network.
And if you want to get £5 free credit on Giffgaff and to order a SIM, just click the link below:

£5 Free Credit GiffGaff Mobile Network

As far as the network coverage goes, everything's great - Giffgaff runs off the O2 network. There's great signal (even in the hills in Wales), and the internet is a great speed.

They are such a flexible network, it's amazing. There are a variety of different rolling contracts that will suit anyone and everyone:

£5 Free Credit GiffGaff Mobile Network

I'm a fan of the £5 hokey cokey goodybag - and it's just got even better! I've used it for the past year and it didn't have the internet included in it before. It's perfect for me because most people call me to talk to me so I get a minute back for every minute they call me - so I hardy ever run out!

And if you don't want a contract you can just add credit and it's still amazing value because they have the lowest rates for individual calls and texts. They also offer 20mb internet use for only 20p a day - way cheaper than the likes of Vodafone (£1 for 25mb).

There are also gigabags you can get - bags of data at low cost if you're an avid internet user, and for an extra £2.50 a month you can add on Blackberry services too, and there are micro sims available...

As long as you top-up once every three months you get free giffgaff-to-giffgaff calls and texts so it's great for families and friends to keep in touch - just spread the word.

I hope I've persuaded you to try GiffGaff - you won't regret it!

Motivational Mantra of the Month 3 | May 2013

Hello There!

So, week 3 of mantras for May. We're coming to the middle of exam time, so as motivation until the end of the exams I'm sharing with you this quote:

There are two different quotes here, but both of them say the same thing. Things may be difficult now, but if you keep at it then they can only get easier.

There's not much else that I can say really, but I find this a comfort when I find what I'm doing challenging  - I even used it when I was teaching myself HTML which has been very challenging at times.

I hope this helps to spur you on with whatever you find challenging at the moment, being at work or exams or even if you're learning a new skill :)

The Body Shop 48 Hour Sale | My Collection | A Little Bit Obsessed

Hello There!

Today I'm sharing the love for the Body Shop. First - they're having a 48hr sale at the moment, so get onto their website!!!

I started going through a Body Shop obsession last year, and I realised the other day just how many of their products I've accumulated...

I love Body Shop skincare products. They always smell incredible and last forever. They're also so so so nourishing, and I always feel good when I buy from their shops because they're completely ethical and you always know there's only good stuff going into their products!

Body Shop Body Butters
If you haven't tried Body Shop body butters, then I don't know where you've been hiding.  They smell amazing and the scent lasts forever - I remember the first time I found out about them, my friend walked in and the whole room filled with coconut, it was so delicious - I had to get me some of that. And that was my first body butter. And somehow my collection's just grown and grown :)

The Body Shop Nutriganics Face and Eye Cream
I'm also a fan of the nutriganics range and enjoy using their day cream and eye cream. They're a really light formula and absorb really easily into the skin. The only flaw I've found is that not quite thick enough for my insanely dry skin, but if I'm having a 'good skin' day, then they're what I reach for.

The Body Shop Lip BalmsThe Body Shop Cherry Soap

The final two things that I'm talking about are their lip balms and their soaps. I always have a Body Shop lip balm in my bag. I'm not a fan of their lip butters because they're really thick and sticky on my lips, but their lip balms are the perfect formula to keep my lips well hydrated. Their soaps are another way to try their great smelling products if you're not after a statement scent - you enjoy it just while you're washing your hands and it doesn't fill the room at the same time - your own little bit of scent excitement :)

If you don't want to spend a lot of money then those two are the best products to look at - at £2 and £3 you really can't go wrong.

Another thing that I think is a great is their loyalty card. It's not the same as a Boots advantage card where you gain points, more like a Starbucks card. It costs £5 for a year but you automatically get that back in your birthday month. You get a stamp for every purchase you make over £10 and when you reach 4 and 8 stamps you get money off your next trip there. There's also 10% off all orders and usually they have a 20% for card-holders once a year. Just add it to your basket when you're on the website.
It's definitely worked well for me!

Do you feel the love for the Body Shop?

Hauling It About | Drugstore Hauls | Elf, MUA, W7

Hello There!

I've been hauling it about recently so I thought I'd show you some of my spoils from my sprees.

I've noticed that we don't really cherish the really budget brands over here in the UK. I know that MUA has made its name in the budget make-up zone recently, but before that range came out, the other budget brands - technic and w7 were usually overlooked.

Whereas in the USA - ELF has long been regarded as a 'good quality' but insanely affordable make-up range. So I went on their site to grab the Mineral Eyeshadow Primer and then I saw on their site that it was buy-one-get-one-free and I couldn't not buy more stuff off it. Oh well...  So, apparently their blushes are great, so I was sure to pick one up - this one is 'Candid Coral' and I'm really excited to try it out!

The other pick I've been enjoying is the w7 Honolulu bronzer, which is amazing. It's evidently a dupe for the Benefit Hoola bronzer, but I think this is just as good. At a measly £2, I'd have tried it anyway because I always get excited when I find a really cheap product with the same quality as a higher end product - those gems have to be found somehow!

And an update on me would be that I've had some highlights put in my hair, which I'm going to be building up because I want a lighter look for summer, but I may give up on them and just dye it blonde. I've done the sad thing of using Photoshop to make my hair blonde, and I'm not sure whether that with my skin tone I'm going to look really washed out, so I thought I'd start with the highlights. I used to dye my hair blonde from when I was 10-12yrs old (I actually can't believe my parents let me!), anyway, my skintone has just got paler and paler since then, so it might not be the same now. But it has taken me this long to dye my hair again - I had to grow my blonde out last time, and it took 2 years - I looked incredibly strange until it  grew out of my fringe.... So I've decided to do it all over again :)

Have you been hauling it about recently? Are you changing your hair for summer?
Let me know in a comment  - I'd love to know!

Motivational Mantra of the Month 2 | May 2013

Hello There!

Phew, it's been a while since I last posted. Well 3 days felt like a long time...
So, as promised, this is the second installment of weekly mantras for May/June. They're on the theme of exams, and I hope that they'll get you guys through, but most of them can be applied to everyday life as well.

Anyone who's done exams (or even just something that's really important that you've spent ages preparing for) knows the disappointment when you come out of the exam (or whatever else) and you think it's gone bad. And I'm the kind of person who worries about it. And worries about it. And worries about it some more.

I discovered this quote only recently and I wish that I'd have known it when I was doing exams last year. I'm the kind of person who really feels any kind of failure, even if it isn't really a failure, I just take it as though it is. So I really try and listen to that part of the quote.

But I also like the first half. Success doesn't really happen to me in the way that I want to, but I think, not letting it go to your head is really grounding, and reminds you to appreciate what you've got and not to go mad if things go the way you want to!

Hope this helps you all :)

NOTW | Polka Dots | MUA Nail Polish - Strawberry Crush

Hello There!

So, I'm doing a NOTW post today. I'm a novice when it comes to nail design - I have neither the patience nor a steady enough hand to achieve a nice design. I've been looking round other blogs and admiring their creative designs, and even if they've got a really easy-to-follow tutorial, I've been too impatient at the moment to try them. So I've stuck with a basic design that I've tried and tested many times before.

Polka Dots. From my blog background, you'll have guessed that I'm a fan of said polka dots and they're the simplest design to do. All you have to do is apply the pink nail polish as normal (2 coats) and then dot the white on top - simples!

MUA Nail Polish - Strawberry CrushMUA Nail Polish - Strawberry Crush

I recently bought an MUA nail polish and so I tried the colour 'Strawberry Crush'. The bottle is reminiscent of Essie nail polishes but they don't have the designer price tag at a crazy £1!

MUA Nail Polish - Strawberry Crush

Apologies for my weird toes, but I thought I'd show you my co-ordination :)

I'll do a full review of MUA nail polishes later on, but for now I thought I'd leave you knowing what I'm sporting on my nails for this week!

Have you been experimenting with nail designs?
Follow me if you like my posts - you'll make my day!

A Chat And A Giggle

Hello There!
I'm taking today's post just to share some thoughts I've been having and just to randomly chat... Enjoy :)

Cockhedge Shopping Centre

Ok, so the first thing I wanted to share is this picture. I pass this shopping centre almost every day and it never fails to make me smile :)

But it does make me think - do they not think about their names? Like, I can't think of anyone who would say 'yeah that sounds like a great name for a shopping centre, nobody will make fun of that...' Or is it meant to be a joke, do they think - we'll make people happy because they'll laugh at the sign. If that is the case it's a pretty good idea cos let's face it, I'm not going to forget the name of it any time soon!

In other news, I've been at my grandmother's a lot recently and she has the channel Comedy Central - something which I can't get on my regular Freeview TV. And I can watch F.R.I.E.N.D.S on it!!!! Yay! I didn't realise how much I've missed this programme from my life. It's sooooo funny. I've watched all the episodes at least a million times (FACT), and they're still not old. I still burst out laughing at all the jokes. I've especially missed Joey and Ross from my life. So much so I've decided I'm going to buy the boxset - something which I didn't have to do when they were on E4. I honestly don't understand how E4 thought it'd be a good idea to sell the rights to the show. Every person I know watched FRIENDS regularly on E4... :(

Phew.Rant over.
At least I'm getting a regular dose of it at the moment. Happy Grace.

What's been making you smile recently? Any funny place names near you?
Let me know in a comment - share the laughter!

Technological Thursday | Get Rid Of ALL Ads & Pop-Ups On Chrome, Firefox, Android, Opera

Hello There!

It's Technological Thursday Again. 70% of the people that view my blog use Google Chrome to view it. As do I. So today my technological tip is about blocking the adverts on browsers (especially chrome).

This was one of my biggest bug-bears. I can't stand adverts popping up left right and centre. And when I got chrome I had to resign myself to living with adverts in order to get a faster browser. So I was stuck

Don't get me wrong, I tried to block them. The tips from Chrome are to turn on the pop-up-blocker. Except it doesn't block any pop-ups. Or, the amount that they do block makes no difference. So for 2 years I was constantly infuriated by the bombardment of adverts every time I click on a link.

And then my saviour came. Hallelujah. I learned about Adblock Plus.
It is an extension that you put on your browser with a click  and of a button, and just forget about because you're now ad free and you don't have to do anything else!

And it is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.

I have been ad-free for 6 months now. And I've never been happier!
Ok, so maybe that's an over-reaction to a Chrome Extension, but if you have been plagued by the same infuriation, then you'll totally understand where I'm coming from.

And actually, this is available for other web browsers as well - Opera, Android & Firefox
Available HERE for all these browsers.

I hope this post has helped with anyone out there who wants to be ad-free.
It literally changed my life :)

Happy Technological Thursday

Motivational Mantra of the Month | May 2013

Hello there!

A new month - a new mantra.
I've decided to do a mantra every Wednesday for May and June, especially for those taking exams in the coming months. But they'll also be useful as an everyday approach to life.
(Which is how I use them at the moment)

And this really is true. Even if you have an amazing talent, if you don't put the work in , you won't get the results that you deserve. This was my art teacher's motto. She'd read it in a fortune cookie and made a poster for the wall. Every time I was a little down about my work, comparing it to other peoples, she'd point to the sign. After a while, I had to ask her - which am I, hard-working or talented? She said: "You're a bit of both Grace, you'll be fine".  A* GCSE later, I decided that she must've been right.

That faith from my teacher really kept me calm in the exam - so good luck to those who are doing exams this month - you'll do fine don't worry.
I have faith in you!

And to everyone else - I hope this motivates you, if you put the work in now, you'll have less to do later (I know it's easier said than done...). It'll be over before you know it!

Ciao for now, G x
