Fat Hair "0" Calorie Amplifying Mousse

Hello There!

Today I'm talking about the mousse from a brand called Fat Hair. So as the name suggests it's a range that makes your hair 'fat', well voluminous. I'd heard great things about the shampoo and conditioner, but I'd already bought new bottles from a different brand and so I thought they'd be a waste of money at the moment. But I still wanted to try the range so I bought the mousse instead. 


I'm not going to lie, the first time I used it I had to wash it out straight away. My hair felt gross. But I assummed that I'd used too much product (a little really does go a long way). And the next few times I used it less product in my hair, it still felt a bit weird -but I could cope with it. 


I eventually realised that the weirdness in my hair was the new volume (duh). I know that sounds really stupid, but I'm used to my thin-but-a-lot-of-it hair. So when it was volumed-up I found it really hard to manage just because I wasn't used to it. 

I was literally about to give up on it and name it 'the product I most regret buying because there is literally nothing good about it', when I had an epiphany. I understood that I had to change my hairstyles to be specific to voluminous hair. Mainly, for me, a high crescent bun..

             And now I love this product! 

It makes this bun so easy to have. I plan my hairstyles so that they work for thicker hair, and if you spend the time getting used to how different your hair works and feels, it's really great to use!

I used to have to spend a half hour trying to get a high bun that is the right shape and stays in place - and whereas I usually had to wait until my hair had gained some grease to make it styleable (freshly cleaned hair is a bugger to get to stay in place), with the Fat Hair Mousse I can do this as soon as I've blow-dried my hair.

 Usually I really have to backcomb my buns to get them not to be limp and pathetic - it also takes a million bobbypins to keep up. But I literally used 4 pins for this bun which is a record for me. It was up all day with me running around and I didn't have to faff with it once, yay!

For me, this product is perfect for the summer days that we're seeing at the moment (touch wood they'll stay). It's great for updos where you want to have more volume up top, and in a hot summer this is a must because I literally die of overheating from my hair on my neck in the sun. 

The only thing I'll say if you go get it, is when it says rub a small amount, it means a SMALL amount.. Think grape size...

Tangle Teezer - Should I Buy One?

Today I'm talking about the newest and most popular hair styling tool of the moment - the Tangle Teezer. So, what's so special about them? That's the exact question I asked myself. So I bought one to try it out.

My first impressions of them were not great - it was so unusual to have the head of the hairbrush in my hand instead of the handle that it was a rather painful experience to begin with. I had to teach myself to brush my hair again. This sounds drastic but basically you just have to use it a couple of times and it comes to you. I used it initially and found that it didn't detangle my hair properly, so I decided to use it primarily for wet hair - that is, to distribute product evenly throughout hair, which it undeniably excels in. YAY!

Then I just randomly decided to try it again on my hair - and I had to conclude that it was perfect for detangling my hair straight after I've washed it. - I will point out though that I don't really brush my hair. Yeah, I know that sounds gross, but once it's styled it doesn't really need much maintenance with regards to brushing, unless I fancy the just-been-on-holiday-to-really-humid-climate look. So, I just brush it once, straight after I've got out the shower - but I use my paddle brush for that, and then for any maintenance (knotty ends) inbetween washes.

And although there is a compact size available, the full-size is still handbag friendly so it's great to just throw in when you're going out!

I bought one in the colour 'Bubblegum Pink' because, yeah, I'm a girly-girl and my favourite colour is pink. But they are also available in: Jeans (light blue), Scream (Orange), Disco (Purple + glitter), Cosmic (Black)

So there's something for everyone. 

What makes these even better is the story behind them. They guy who designed them (Shaun P) went on Dragon's Den and none of them invested in the Tangle Teezer business. But he persevered and made it successful on his own, which I think is much more of an achievement, don't you?  Take that Dragons!

The people who I think these brushes are perfect for are small children. Their hair tends to be softer and so the bristles will be much more effective at detangling than on my damaged, coarse hair. And, they have a special 'flowerpot' design that are super-cute and a great size for mummy's handbag!

It is available instore in Boots - I was in a hair wholesalers last month and the sales assistants thought that they were only available online - but they are instore, so really handy to get hold of one straight away.

Would I recommend it?

Yes, I would, and already have. It is the perfect tool to make sure that products don't clump on your hair. And it does provide a smooth... brushing of the hair...?

March Favourites | Pantene Aqualight | Aussie | D&G | Rimmel

YAY! It's my first favourites post. I have literally never been so excited about anything, ever  in my life... Ok, so that's an exaggeration. But I'm still very excited about it. We've reached the end of a month and I want to tell you about the products that I've been loving through March. I've divided them into two parts - haircare and make-up products. 
Here we go!

Haircare products that I was loving in March:

I am facing an eternal plight against frizz, and these are two discoveries that I made which really have helped me make progress in my fight.

Left: Pantene Pro-V Aqualight Conditioner: So I succumbed to the adverts and purchased a bottle to try out the range. I tend not to be that fussy about shampoos so I just started with the conditioner. As for quite a lot of people my hair type is fine hair - but a lot of it. This actually makes it really difficult to find hair products that work. But for once, I purchased a conditioner specifically for fine hair - a first for me. And I have honestly never had a product work so well, and seen really noticeable results. I literally applied no other products to my hair and never before have I seen my hair less naturally frizzy. It looked as sleek as when I straighten my hair, but had its natural waves in it. A super-product that I am recommending to everyone.

A must-have for frizz-prone hair!

Right: Aussie Curl Definition+Soft Feel Serum: The name says it all. It helps define natural waves and curls, and makes you're hair noticeably softer. When I used this product I had a massive fear of horrid greasy hair full of product, which I have experienced before from similar products. But I was in for a surprise when I plucked up the courage to try this serum. It really does help tame my hair. Especially when it feel particularly damaged after heat styling. I have to say that the Aqualight conditioner above is overall more effective than this serum, but you do have to change-up shampoos and conditioners pretty often so they stay effective. So in-between using the Aqua-light conditioner, I will be using this to keep frizz to the minimum, because it really does work. I'll also be exploring more of this range soon, so watch this space if you're interested.

Now onto Make-Up products that I loved in March:

Dolce & Gabbana Secret Eyes Mascara: Ok, so it's no secret that I have a massive make-up crush on this mascara. I've written a 'why should I buy this mascara?' review here, so I'm not going to add to this post except for saying that: I love this mascara. 
It's an investment for beautiful eyes. Go get it.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation

Colour 100, Ivory: 

So this product has been raved about a lot on youtube and so I bought it in February. 

Since then it has become a regular liquid foundation for me. It applies really well, and has a nice consistency, it is dewy - but not so much so that it makes you look sweaty. It actually has what look like to be tiny-weeny little pieces of glitter or something (it sparkles basically), well it reflects light so it really does give you a 'woken up' appearance and makes you look noticeably radiant. 

It has a medium coverage, so you're likely to want concealer, but it does mean that it can be used as both a  summer and a winter foundation. 

An added bonus which I've really appreciated is the SPF15. For the winter days (like at the moment) it protects against harsh winds and rays from cloudy days, and then I can use it for the summer because it'll provide extra protection against the sun. Lovely jubbly.

And with my super-sensitive skin, I haven't reacted to this foundation either, which is a break-through for me. I've remained faithful to Maxfactor for a number of years, because I know their foundations don't react with my skin. But I bit the bullet and bought this foundation and have not been disappointed by blotchy skin, Yay! It also hasn't dried out my skin, which is always a worry for me with liquid foundations (weirdly). But it ticks all the boxes on the skin front. 

A definite all rounder liquid foundation, that will work for all the seasons. 

A must-have product.
